Hello again!
I read both your responses. I’m surprised you would want to put so much energy into responding to something you think is so beneath you — drivel, as you said.
I’m curious — do you think all journalists who report on politics should become politicians? All journalists who report on the stock market should work on Wall Street? All journalists who report on healthcare should be doctors? If I were to write a piece about figure skating costumes (not about figure skating itself, but just their clothing) would your expectation be that I become a figure skater? You’re correct that a journalist’s job is to research and report on their topic, but that doesn’t automatically require they do the job themselves in order to have any validity.
That said, you are also correct that this is an editorial piece. It reflects opinion, both mine and the opinion of others. I don’t think I know better than the people who do the sport, which is why the vast majority of this piece is quoting people who do the sport.
You obviously disagree with my assessment, and that’s more than fine. I’m happy to welcome your opinions into this comment section.
Thanks again for your feedback!
